10th Anniversary Photoshoot Vietnam: What Cáo Studio Does On the Day
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-02
A 10th anniversary photoshoot with Cáo Studio is a half-day or full-day session in Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An or Ninh Binh where our team photographs you as a couple in locations that matter to you. We handle styling, makeup, hair and all technical work; you show up and be together. Sessions typically run 3–6 hours on location, with outfit changes. The package includes a pre-shoot call to pick locations and wardrobe, professional hair and makeup (on-site or at your hotel), photographer and one assistant, and edited digital images delivered within 2–3 weeks. We avoid rushed timelines and oversold days; we take one couple per time slot. Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp for your specific dates and locations. Chat with us on WhatsApp
A 10th anniversary shoot in Vietnam marks ten years together—and for many couples we meet, it's the first time they've invested in professional portraits as a married pair. We've shot anniversaries in every season across four cities, and the difference between a shoot that feels joyful and one that feels stressful usually comes down to decisions made weeks before the camera clicks. This is what we actually do, hour by hour, and the things we've learned to do differently.
Why do couples choose Vietnam for a 10th anniversary photoshoot?
Ten years is long enough to have outgrown newlywed urgency, but not so long that you've stopped wanting to mark milestones. We've noticed anniversary couples often pick Vietnam because it's a trip they've never done together, or they grew up here and want to bring their partner to a place that shaped them. The light is forgiving, the locations are varied, and hotels and restaurants work smoothly with foreign visitors. We've shot couples on their first trip to Hanoi, couples returning to Saigon after a decade apart, and couples meeting their partner's hometown for the first time. The shoot becomes part of the anniversary trip itself, not a separate task. That matters because it means you're already in the right headspace—you've traveled together, you're rested, you're thinking about "us" instead of a checklist.

How much time do you actually need for a good anniversary session?
Most couples book 4–5 hours with us, which sounds short until you live through it. We arrive one hour early for hair and makeup (either at your hotel or our studio), which gives us 3–4 hours on location with one outfit change and a travel buffer between sites. In that window we usually capture 150–250 keepers—enough variety that editing feels like choosing between strong options, not salvaging a thin gallery. Couples who rush (booking 2–3 hours total) often regret it halfway through because the first location is always slower; you're both nervous, finding your rhythm with the camera, and the light is still transitioning. We've found that couples who book a full day (6–7 hours) tend to relax into the second half and get the most natural images, though if you're on a tight schedule, half-day works well if you're willing to keep locations tight and skip a costume change. What matters more than hours is that you're not watching the clock.
What locations work best for an anniversary couple in Vietnam?
Our proposal and anniversary package includes location scouting as part of the pre-shoot call. We don't impose a list; we ask you three questions: What matters to this trip? Are you comfortable being photographed with other tourists around? Do you want something iconic or somewhere private? That leads to very different choices. In Hanoi, couples split between Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the Old Quarter (busy, gorgeous light, iconic) or a quieter temple or café in Ba Đình (fewer tourists, more intimate). In Saigon, we see couples choose the Saigon River at sunset, a hidden alley in District 1, or a colonial villa garden in District 3. Hoi An is almost always chosen by couples who want that warm lantern light and the Ancient Town narrow streets—it reads perfectly in photos and feels romantic without trying. Ninh Bing attracts couples who've read about the karst mountains and want something dramatic. The honest truth: the location matters less than your comfort there. A quiet café where you're relaxed beats an Instagram-famous spot where you're checking if strangers are watching. We build in buffer time so we're never racing the light or your energy.

What do we actually prepare before you arrive?
Two weeks before the shoot, we send a WhatsApp with three things: a mood-board link of image styles (colour, posture, energy level), a packing guide for different locations and weather, and a 10-minute video call to confirm hair and makeup requests and talk through your timeline that day. That call is not optional—it catches things like "I hate my arms" or "Please no photos where I look tired" which we'd otherwise miss. We ask about your clothing: formal anniversary wear, casual, matching outfits or contrasting, props (flowers, anniversary cake, a printed photo from your actual wedding day). We've learned to push back gently on mismatched energy; if one partner wants soft romantic and the other wants bold editorial, we talk through looks that hold both tones. The day before, our makeup artist confirms any product sensitivities and reviews the light forecast. We brief our photographer and assistant on your story (how you met, where this trip sits in your life together) not for conversation, but so they anticipate moments—the glance when one person says something funny, the hand-reach across a table. It sounds small, but it's the difference between posed photos and images that actually feel like you.
| Decision | What matters | What to confirm in the pre-shoot call |
|---|---|---|
| Location(s) | Light direction, crowds, travel time between sites, your comfort level | Is this somewhere you've been before? How much walking? Any areas to avoid? |
| Styling | Your confidence, not current trends | What were you wearing the day you met or got married? Do you want to honour that or move on from it? |
| Makeup intensity | Skin tone, camera and daylight look different | Do you want natural, or do you want makeup that shows on camera? Any skin concerns? |
| Duration | Energy, detail, outfit changes | Would you rather one longer block or split into two shorter sessions? |
| Timing of day | Light, your schedule, crowd flow | Are you morning people? Do you want golden hour, or does overcast suit your aesthetic? |

What actually goes wrong, and how do we handle it?
In five years of anniversary shoots, the things that trip us up are rarely about skill or equipment. They're usually small logistical gaps. The couple's hotel isn't ready for our arrival on time, so we start makeup 20 minutes behind, and suddenly we're choosing between skipping breakfast or cutting a location short. Weather changes between the scouting call and shoot day, and the light we planned for isn't there—overcast instead of blue sky, or rain that looks beautiful but makes holding hands uncomfortable. One partner's energy dips midway through (this happens; it's not your fault), and we need to shift from expansive poses to quieter moments. A tuk-tuk doesn't arrive on schedule, or a location has new restrictions. We've learned to build 15 minutes of flex time into every transition, to carry backup outfit options, to have a second-choice location already scouted, and to keep the mood light by treating surprises as creative challenges, not disasters. The best protection is honest communication beforehand: tell us if you're nervous, if you've never been in photos together, if your partner is camera-shy. We adjust our approach, our pace, and what we ask of you. The shoot should feel like a celebration, not a performance test.
What do you receive and when?
We deliver edited digital images only—no prints, no albums, no video (unless you've booked a special concept package that includes it). Within 2–3 weeks of the shoot, you receive a gallery link with 80–120 final photos (the edit is ruthless; we remove duplicates, soft focus, and images where the light or mood doesn't serve you). You can download them all, share them with family, print them yourself. We don't watermark. We don't offer unlimited revisions, but we do honor one round of edits if an image is genuinely off-colour or needs a crop adjustment. A few couples ask about albums or prints after they see the gallery; we point them toward our family photoshoot page which includes guidance on that. The turnaround is important because by week three you're already back home, and the images arrive when you're ready to relive the trip. We don't rush edits to deliver in one week, and we don't drag them out to ten. Two to three weeks is our standard because it's realistic and kind to both you and our editing team.
What to check before you book
- Dates and locations align. We operate in Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An and Ninh Bình. Check that your anniversary trip covers one of these cities and that you have at least a half-day free (ideally not your last day of travel, when you're packing or catching a flight). Ask us for availability on WhatsApp.
- You've chosen a style direction. Look at past shoots on our blog and proposal and anniversary page to see if our aesthetic matches yours. If you hate colour, or if you love maximalist energy, tell us early. If our work doesn't align with what you want, that's useful to know now, not after booking.
- Confirm what's included. Our package includes photographer, makeup, hair and digital images. It does not include prints, albums, videos (unless special concept), or travel time beyond the booked hours. Confirm this with us so there's no surprise.
- You're ready to spend time together on camera. This isn't a test. But anniversary shoots work best when both partners are willing to be a little vulnerable, to hold hands in public, to listen to direction. If one of you is very camera-shy, we can adjust (quieter poses, less eye contact), but we can't work around deep unwillingness. Honest conversations save everyone's time.

FAQ
Can we do an anniversary shoot on our actual anniversary date, or is any day during our Vietnam trip fine?
Any day works if the light and your energy are good. Many couples don't time it to the calendar date—they book for a day when weather forecasts well and they're rested. If the date is important to you, ask us in advance and we'll do our best to hold it, but flexibility usually leads to better light and photos.
Is it weird to hire a photographer for an anniversary when we've been together 10 years?
Not at all. We've shot couples married 3 years and couples married 30 years. By ten years, most couples have no professional photos together because you were too busy building a life. An anniversary shoot is a gift you give yourselves—it says "we still want to be here, captured, remembered." That's a big deal.
What if we're not comfortable being affectionate on camera?
Tell us. We can shoot you laughing, looking out at a view, walking side by side, sitting quietly together. Not every shot needs to be a kiss or embrace. Our photographer will read your comfort level and adjust. Most couples surprise themselves by how natural it feels once you're actually there.
Do we need to buy matching outfits or wear formal wear?
No. We recommend clothes that make you feel like yourselves, which might be formal, casual, matching, contrasting, or a mix. If you wore something meaningful ten years ago (even just a colour, a style), we love incorporating that idea. Comfort matters more than coordination.
Can we bring our kids, or does the shoot need to be just us?
A 10th anniversary shoot is usually partners only. If you want to include kids, that becomes a family session—very different pacing and energy. We offer family photoshoots as a separate package. You can also book both: a couple session on one day and a family session on another.
What's the backup plan if weather is bad on our shoot day?
We scout a location that works in rain (covered markets, colonial buildings, under an awning) as part of the pre-shoot call. Rain isn't a cancellation for us; it just changes the mood. If the day is genuinely unsafe (typhoon, flooding), we reschedule you to the next available slot during your trip. We don't ask for additional fees for rescheduling.
