Anniversary Photoshoot at My Son Sanctuary

By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-02

My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site 40 km southwest of Hội An, is a 1500-year-old Champa temple complex wrapped in jungle. Anniversary shoots there run 3–4 hours and include styling, professional portraits among stone towers and moss-covered ruins, and a pickup-return service. Cáo Studio handles logistics: dawn or late-afternoon timing to avoid heat and crowds, a dedicated photographer and stylist, and post-session galleries. Costs depend on team size, location transport, and outfit changes; check anniversary and proposal packages for current options. Most couples choose a single outfit (áo dài, formal wear, or casual) to maximize shooting time across different temple zones. Avoid midday (11:00–15:00)—light flattens, humidity peaks, and tourist groups dominate. Book 2–3 weeks ahead during Tet, summer, or October. Why does My Son beat other Hội An anniversary spots?

My Son's scale—13 surviving temple structures across 142 hectares—gives couples endless backdrops without repeating frames. Hội An Old Town, by contrast, feels cramped with foot traffic; the beaches near Cửa Đại are flat and generic. We've found that My Son's weathered brick, towering doorways, and natural canopy create textured, intimate light that reads as timeless in every frame. The spiritual weight of the ruins also shifts couples' energy—less "perform for camera," more "we belong here." That matters for genuine connection shots, which anniversary albums need. The site entrance fee (per regulations) is included in our transport quotes, so no surprises.

What time of day should we shoot at My Son?

We always tell couples: 6:00–8:30 a.m. or 16:00–18:30 p.m. At dawn, the light is soft gold, mist clings to stone, and you'll see maybe 50 other visitors. By mid-morning, tour groups flood in; we've had to pause shoots three times to clear backgrounds. Late afternoon gives warm amber tones and shorter shadows—ideal for silhouette and couple-walking shots. Midday (11:00–15:00) is a hard no: harsh shadows on faces, humidity over 80%, and the site becomes an open-air oven. We've had to delay one session by two hours because the client's makeup melted. Sunset shoots end by 19:00 because gates close and light dies fast in jungle. Budget 4–5 hours total (travel + shoot + setup).

Should we wear áo dài, formal wear, or casual clothes?

Outfit typeBest forWhy we recommend itWhat to avoid
Áo dài (traditional Vietnamese)Heritage narrative, timeless albumsFabric catches light beautifully; matches temple aesthetics. Symbolic for anniversaries.Avoid heavy brocades in heat; stick to silk or linen blends.
Formal wear (dress/suit, Western)Couples wanting classic, editorial lookHigh contrast against stone; photographs sharp. Works if you're celebrating overseas.Restrictive fabrics cause sweat stains visible in photos.
Casual (smart casual, jeans + blouse)Relaxed, natural feel; longer shooting comfortCouples move freely, smile easier. Easier to walk temple stairs in.Logos, bright neons, busy prints compete with ruins. Solids work better.

We usually suggest one outfit per shoot—changing takes 15 minutes and eats shooting time. If you want two looks, add 1 hour. Áo dài shoots happen in our Hà Nội and Sài Gòn studios beforehand (styling, hair, makeup) to avoid delays on-site. Formal wear or casual stays simple: guests arrive ready, we do minor touch-ups on location.

How does Cáo Studio handle the logistics from Hội An?

We pick up from your hotel in Hội An or Hội An town center around 5:30 a.m. for dawn shoots (or 15:15 for afternoon). Our van fits the photographer, stylist, makeup artist if booked, and couple with gear—no cramped taxis. The 40-minute drive lets couples relax and chat; we brief you on temple zones, stair safety, and how we'll pace the shoot. On arrival, we do a quick walk-through with the photographer to spot light angles and scout crowds. We've learned the hard way: if a large group bus is parked, we shift to a secondary zone—no point fighting backgrounds. The stylist does hair/makeup touch-ups in the van or a quiet temple corner; we always carry a portable mirror, clips, and powder. By 7:00 a.m., we're shooting. Return to Hội An by 11:00 a.m. or 19:00 (evening). Transport is included in anniversary and proposal packages.

What do we actually get after the shoot?

Gallery delivery: 80–120 final images (color-corrected, edited) within 7–10 working days via a private online link. You can download, print, or share with family. We don't hand over raw files, but we offer prints, digital albums, and canvas options from our production partners. Most couples order a keepsake album or art print for display. We've noticed anniversary couples often want one large canvas (A2 or A3 size) of a favorite moment for the bedroom or living room—something you see every day. That decision usually happens after you see the gallery, so don't rush. Some couples request a small batch of prints for parents; we can arrange that. Drone shots (if approved by site authorities) are captured separately; check our special concept shoot options for add-on details.

What goes wrong and how do we fix it?

Rain. It happens mid-monsoon (Sept–Oct). We have lightweight ponchos and shift to temple interiors with arched ceilings—dramatic natural light, no glare. One couple's áo dài got damp; we had it dried with battery fans in the van within 20 minutes.

Tourist groups blocking key shots. We position ourselves off the main pathways and use crowd awareness—our photographer knows peak entrance times. If a bus of 40 people arrives, we pause, eat breakfast, and resume in 30 minutes. Time is built into the schedule.

Makeup or hair mishap. Our stylist carries backup products and repair kits. One client's hair clip broke; we had three spares. Makeup fades in humidity—we reapply powder and lip color every 45 minutes.

Phone or wallet forgotten. One couple left their keys in the van at the temple entrance. We've now attached a checklist in the van: phones, IDs, valuables go in a small pouch we hold during the shoot.

Couple gets tired or overwhelmed. Anniversary shoots can stir emotions—people cry, get overwhelmed by the setting. We pause, sit in shade, offer water, and move at your pace. There's no "must-have" shot worth ruining the day.

What should you check before booking?

  1. Date and time flexibility. Confirm dawn or evening works for your schedule; midday is not an option.
  1. Outfit and styling. Decide now if you need hair/makeup services. If yes, book makeup and hair at your hotel the evening before, or we arrange it in Hội An that morning (adds 1 hour).
  1. Transport from where. We pick up from hotels in Hội An town. If you're staying in Cẩm Thanh or outside town, confirm the pickup point and let us know early.
  1. Drone or special requests. Drones are allowed at My Son but require advance notice to the site authorities (we handle paperwork). If you want underwater shots (not possible here) or a second location (e.g., nearby beaches), say so now.
  1. Guest list. Is it just you two, or family members tagging along? Only the couple is in most shots, but families in final group frames add cost. Clarify upfront.
  1. Budget for prints or albums. Gallery is digital. If you want canvas or album, plan that into your budget; we quote prints separately.
  1. Backup date. Bad weather or site closure? We offer a reschedule option—check our proposal and anniversary terms.

Which Cáo Studio team covers My Son shoots?

My Son is closest to our Hội An-based operations (Quảng Nam province, 45 min south of Sài Gòn). Our Hội An liaisons coordinate the shoot, and our Sài Gòn post-production team edits and delivers. If you're based in Hà Nội, we can arrange a full-service package—you fly to Hà Nội, we coordinate Hà Nội styling, then handle the My Son shoot via our Sài Gòn partner. Most couples find it easiest to book a multi-city trip: Hà Nội photoshoot + Hội An (My Son) + beach extension.

FAQ

Can we do My Son at sunset instead of sunrise?

Yes. Sunset is 17:30–18:30 depending on season; we shoot 16:00–18:30. Golden light is warmer than dawn. Trade-off: fewer stone textures visible, and you'll see more tourists (afternoon groups linger). Sunrise feels more exclusive, but both work. Check anniversary packages for timing options.

How much does the My Son entrance fee cost?

Entrance is managed by the site authority; we include the current rate in our transport quote. Check when you book—fees occasionally change. You'll pay nothing extra on the day.

What if it rains during our shoot?

We shoot anyway. Drizzle is atmospheric; heavy rain, we shift into temple structures (arched stone interiors have beautiful diffused light). We've shot in light rain five times this year—couples loved the moody results. Bring a towel just in case.

Do we need Vietnam visas to shoot at My Son?

Yes, if you're not a Vietnamese citizen. Visa is separate from the photoshoot booking. We can recommend visa agents if you need help; most international guests arrange it before arrival. Bring your passport to the shoot.

Can family members join the shoot or watch from nearby?

Yes, but only the couple is in most frames. Family members can walk along; we'll take some group shots at the end (usually 10–15 minutes). Let us know the headcount when you book so we manage crowd and positioning.

What if we don't like the photos?

We show you 80–120 final images. If you'd like adjustments (color, cropping, exposure), we make them at no extra cost. Full reshoot is rare, but if the session was genuinely marred (extreme weather, miscommunication), we reschedule. Ask about our policy when you book.
