Anniversary photoshoot Hanoi: what we learn on set
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-02
An anniversary photoshoot in Hanoi celebrates your years together through portraits in the city's streets, temples, parks and cafés. Cáo Studio runs these for couples marking 1 year to 25+ years; most sessions are 2–4 hours, starting at dawn in the Old Quarter or dusk at West Lake, and include a professional photographer, stylist on set and retouched digital files. Cost depends on location, time and guest count—ask us for a quote on WhatsApp. Couples often choose to pair shoots with áo dài (traditional dress) or casual wear, and to book makeup and hair services beforehand. The most common mistake is booking a weekend slot in October–November without 6 weeks' lead time; we fill fast then. Chat with us on WhatsApp | See packages and prices on vietnamphotoshoot.com
Why do couples book anniversary shoots in Hanoi right now?
We see two reasons. First, Hanoi's seasons are sharp—autumn light (September–November) is soft and cool; spring (February–April) is gold and green. Couples who waited want to mark the milestone before the year passes or lock in a date for next spring. Second, the pandemic shifted how people celebrate; now we book couples who skipped a big dinner and chose photos instead, or added a shoot to an anniversary weekend trip. The trend feels permanent.

What does our team actually do hour by hour?
We meet at the location—say, the Hoan Kiem Lake promenade at 5:30 a.m.—and check light for 10 minutes. The photographer positions you while our makeup artist touches up foundation and lips; the stylist checks your outfit for wrinkles and adjusts posture. From 5:50 to 7:30 a.m. we shoot: maybe 80–120 frames. We move to a second spot (a café in the Old Quarter, or the French Cathedral steps) at 8 a.m.; light is hotter now, so we find shade and try a different mood—playful instead of romantic, or vice versa. By 10 a.m., tourists crowd in; we wrap. You receive a preview link within 3 days. Retouched files come in 7–14 days. What breaks this timeline? Rain (we reschedule), a guest arriving late (we shorten the second location), or you changing outfits onsite (we lose 15 minutes and shoot fewer frames).

How do you pick between casual wear and áo dài?
Both work; it depends on your story. Áo dài (the flowing tunic and silk pants) reads instantly as "Hanoi romance" and photographs in rich colors—the fabric moves beautifully in wind, and red or burgundy stands out against green lakes and old stone. Casual wear (jeans, linen shirts, sundresses) feels modern and intimate; you are yourself, not in costume. We advise: if this is your first professional shoot together, choose casual wear and one áo dài look—you'll have two moods and feel less pressure. If you are celebrating 10+ years, lean into áo dài; the formality honors the time. If you are visiting Hanoi from abroad, choose áo dài because you won't wear it at home; the photos become a souvenir. Mixed couples (one in áo dài, one in shirt and trousers) photograph well too and let each person feel themselves.
Where in Hanoi do anniversary couples photograph?
We use four zones depending on your vibe and the hour:
| Zone | Why couples pick it | Best time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hoan Kiem Lake loop | Iconic, water light, locals | 5:30–7 a.m. or 5–6 p.m. | Crowded after 8 a.m.; bring water shoes if you want lakeside steps |
| Old Quarter streets (Hang Bac, Dinh Tien Hoang) | Narrow, centuries-old, electric | 6–8 a.m. | Shopkeepers open at 7 a.m.; avoid noon heat |
| French Quarter (Nha Tho Cathedral, Opera House) | Elegant, colonial, light stone | 4–5:30 p.m. | Tourist crowds; we shoot in side streets and small parks |
| West Lake (Tay Ho) | Rural feel, temples, gardens | 4:30–6:30 p.m. | Far from center; add 30 min travel; roads narrow |
Most couples book the Old Quarter + Hoan Kiem combo; we do it all the time. Some ask for a third location—a family temple or a café where you had your first date. We've never said no, but it costs time and moves fast. Book longer if you want three zones.

What do you recommend to first-time anniversary shoot clients?
Book at least 6 weeks ahead; our calendar fills. Arrive in Hanoi 2–3 days before the shoot if you're traveling—jet lag makes faces puffy and tired in photos. Confirm your location and time 1 week before; we send you a map pin and the exact meeting point. Bring a second outfit if you like (sneakers, a cardigan, jewelry that means something to you). Eat a light breakfast; low blood sugar shows in your face. Wear sunscreen on your face and neck the day before and morning-of—sunburn reads as splotches in photos and our retoucher spends hours fixing it. Trust your photographer when they ask you to move closer or hold his hand differently; they've done 500 anniversary shoots. Don't overthink poses; the best frame is usually when you are laughing at something silly we said.
We recommend pairing your shoot with makeup and hair at your hotel if you're traveling; it costs less than salon prices and our artist meets you relaxed, not rushed. If you are celebrating with family (parents, siblings), consider a family photoshoot later that day or the next morning; light is different and the mood is different, and you'll have both sets of photos.
What mistakes do we see couples make—and how do we fix them?
Booking during peak season without 6 weeks' notice. We have two photographers. October and November fill 3–4 weeks out. In March and April, same story. Solution: book January–February or June–August if your date is flexible, or tell us now and we'll put you on a waitlist.
Choosing an outfit they're not comfortable in. One couple wore matching red silk áo dài and looked elegant but felt stiff; the photos were polite, not joyful. We now ask: "What do you wear when it's just you two, no wedding, no event?" and build from there. A man in a linen shirt and jeans with rolled sleeves photographs happier than in a dress shirt.
Expecting professional photos without retouching. Hanoi's heat, humidity and dust show in skin texture. We include basic retouching (skin smoothing, color balance, blemish removal) in all packages. Heavy retouching (thinning, teeth whitening, background cleanup) costs extra; we quote it per-image.
Arriving early and exhausted. If your shoot is 6 a.m., don't arrive at 5:15 a.m. and stand around in the cool air worrying about light. Arrive at 5:50 a.m. We handle setup. You stay warm and calm.
Not telling us you have a memory or location in mind. We shot a 20-year anniversary couple who'd had their first date at a specific café table. They didn't mention it. We asked "Do you have a favorite place in Hanoi?" on the day, and they lit up. We had 30 minutes of daylight left. We drove there, squeezed in 40 frames, and those were the images they printed and framed. Tell us. Always.
What should you check before booking?
Location is real and accessible. We send a map pin. Can you walk there? Is a motorbike taxi needed? Are there stairs? Tell us if you have mobility issues.
Time matches natural light. Sunset at 5:15 p.m. in November; ask us to confirm your slot. Noon is nearly never booked (harsh shadows).
Your outfit fits and you feel like yourself. Bring it to a fitting call if you're local; if you're traveling, send photos. We'll adjust rental sizes.
You've told us your vibe. Romantic and serious? Playful and silly? Travel documentary style? Give us a word or a Pinterest board.
Makeup and hair are booked separately if you want them. Our stylist on set can touch up, not transform. Book hotel makeup and hair if you want a pro look.
Weather is checked 3 days before. Hanoi rain is fast and fierce. If rain is forecast, we agree on a reschedule date when booking.
You know when retouched files arrive. Standard: 7–14 days. Expedite: ask us. We don't promise faster without a quote.
