Elopement photos at Ganh Dau cape: what we shoot and when

By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-04

Ganh Dau cape elopement shoots run 2–4 hours with Cáo Studio, covering the cliffs, tide pools, and golden-hour light over the Phu Quoc coastline. We bring two team members (photographer + stylist or makeup artist), handle wardrobe changes on-site, and shoot in raw 25–75-frame sets timed to the tides and weather. Elopements here work best in December through March when seas are calm and light is consistent. Cost and inclusions vary by travel distance and team size; ask us for a quote on WhatsApp. What to avoid: booking during monsoon season (May–October), shooting at midday without a reflector or scrim, or wearing heavy fabrics that catch wind and seawater spray. We've shot more than forty elopements at Ganh Dau cape since 2021—enough to know exactly where the light dies, when the spray soaks the camera, and which hour the tour buses leave. This guide walks through what we do on the day, what we tell couples on WhatsApp before they arrive, and how to decide if Ganh Dau is the right backdrop for your shoot.

Why does Ganh Dau work for elopement shoots?

Ganh Dau is a 20-minute drive from Phu Quoc town, sits at the island's northwestern point, and offers three distinct zones: high limestone cliffs (40–60 meters), accessible rock shelves at tide line, and sand beaches framed by jungle. The light runs east-to-west across the water, which means we can shoot backlit silhouettes in afternoon and front-lit detail in early morning. We choose Ganh Dau when couples want drama and isolation—no crowds after 10 a.m., and the tide pools create natural leading lines. One couple asked us in March if Ganh Dau was "too touristy." We drove them at 7 a.m., showed them the empty cliffs, and they booked the same week. The trade-off: you need calm seas and clear skies to access lower rocks safely.

When in the year should we plan your Ganh Dau elopement?

December through March is our peak window: seas are flat, humidity drops, and the northeast monsoon pushes weather fronts away fast. April sees rising heat and occasional rain. May onward is typhoon season—we turn down Ganh Dau bookings because spray and wind make camera work risky and couples' makeup runs. October brings clearer skies again, but water is still rough. We check the Phu Quoc tide tables and weather radar the morning before every shoot. In February 2025, we moved a couple's 2 p.m. slot to 11 a.m. because a swell was building. They didn't complain—the earlier light was better anyway. Ask us to check conditions before you commit.

What happens hour-by-hour during a Ganh Dau elopement shoot?

Hour 1 (arrival + wardrobe): We meet you at Ganh Dau parking lot with a cooler, reflectors, and backup battery packs. You change into your first outfit (usually dress or ao dai) in our vehicle or a nearby hut we scout beforehand. Stylist pins any loose fabric. Photographer tests light on the cliff edge. We shoot 15–20 frames while you walk toward the vista.

Hour 1.5–2 (main location work): We move down to rock shelves if the tide is low (we check tide apps daily). This takes ten minutes and means watching your footing—we carry you if needed, but most couples prefer walking. We shoot 40–60 frames in various poses: profile shots against the water, seated on rocks, backlighting at the cliff edge. Spray sometimes hits the lens; we wipe with a microfiber cloth between sets. One couple's veil got soaked in 2024—we used it anyway; the shots went viral on their Instagram.

Hour 2.5–3 (wardrobe change or beach time): Second outfit (lighter dress, casual suit, or second ao dai) goes on near the vehicle. We might shoot on sand or return to cliffs depending on light. By 3 p.m., the sun is lower and the color temperature shifts orange—ideal for warm skin tones. Couple asks for casual walking shots; we deliver 25–30 frames.

Hour 3.5+ (golden hour finale): Last 30–60 minutes before sunset, we shoot from the highest cliff with the sun at your back. This is when magic happens: rim lighting, long shadows, the water glows. We take 50+ frames and stay until the sun clips the horizon. Rain or clouds mean we wrap early or reschedule (per our policy).

Turnaround: Images are culled, color-graded, and delivered within 7–10 days on our secure portal. Print orders and album design take an additional 2–3 weeks.

What do we pack and prepare before leaving Hanoi or Saigon?

Our Ganh Dau kit includes: two camera bodies, four lenses (24–70mm, 70–200mm, 35mm, 14mm), three backup batteries, memory cards in two separate bags, a portable reflector, a 6-foot scrim for midday diffusion, wireless microphones (if you want ambient sound captured), a first-aid kit, sunscreen, bug spray, two towels, and a dry bag for electronics in case of unexpected waves. We also carry a small tripod for video reels and a spirit level to straighten horizon shots. Stylist brings clips, bobby pins, hairspray, safety pins, and a steamer. Makeup artist brings touchup powders, lip color, and tissues. We always overprepare because Ganh Dau is remote: if something breaks or the wind picks up unexpectedly, we have a backup plan. One shoot in 2023, we forgot the reflector and had to improvise with a white bedsheet from a nearby resort. It worked, but we never forgot it again.

How much time and what package option fits an elopement at Ganh Dau?

Our pre-wedding and elopement package covers up to 4 hours on-location with one photographer and one support team member (stylist, makeup artist, or videographer). If you want hair and makeup applied before you leave your hotel, add our makeup and hair at your hotel service—saves 45 minutes at the cape. Some couples book a couple photoshoot for a half-day in a secondary location (Sunset Town, Cua Can beach) and Ganh Dau for the main event. Logistics: Cáo Studio has no studio in Phu Quoc, so we work with a local coordinator and your hotel's concierge. Travel to Ganh Dau from most hotels is 20–40 minutes by car (cost paid separately). We don't drive your vehicle; you or your hotel arranges transport.

What should we check before we book a Ganh Dau elopement shoot?

Weather & tides: Check Phu Quoc tide forecasts 48 hours and 24 hours before your date. Tides shift the accessible rocks 10–15 meters. We reschedule if seas exceed 1.5-meter swell or winds gust above 30 kph—safety over photos every time. In 2024, we postponed a couple's shoot by one day; the second day was perfect, and they received a complimentary sunset shots add-on.

Outfit logistics: Bring spare shoes (reef walkers or water sandals), a backup dress or suit, and a light wrap. Ganh Dau rocks are sharp; standard wedding heels snap. One bride wore flats for rock shots and looked elegant anyway. Your stylist will advise once you confirm the date.

Travel & timing: Confirm your hotel's car availability and driver skill on rough coastal roads. The final 200 meters to Ganh Dau is unpaved. We tell guests to arrive by 7 a.m. if you want the empty cliffs; 9 a.m. or later, you'll share the view with tour groups.

Backup locations: If Ganh Dau closes (rare), we pivot to Long Beach or Cua Can beach within Phu Quoc. Discuss contingencies in your WhatsApp conversation with us before you book.

Digital & prints: Confirm if you want digital files, printed album, or both. Print turnaround is longer in monsoon season due to lab capacity. Order early if your wedding is in December–January.

Approximately 45–60 minutes by car depending on traffic in Duong Dong town. We recommend arriving the day before and confirming your shoot date with us once you land.

Light rain often looks dramatic on camera. Heavy rain (>10 mm/hour) and lightning mean we stop and reschedule within 7 days at no extra cost. We check radar every 2 hours on shoot day.

Do you offer video at Ganh Dau?

Yes, as part of our pre-wedding and elopement package. Videographer comes in place of or alongside the photographer. Discuss your brief with us on WhatsApp.

Can we invite family or friends to watch?

We reschedule within 30 days at no cost. If you can't reschedule, a 50% credit applies toward a future date. Cancellations made >5 days before forfeit less. Ask us for full terms on WhatsApp.
