Getting to An Bang Beach on photoshoot day: transport, timing and logistics
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-04
An Bang Beach sits 5 km northeast of Hoi An Old Town and takes 20–30 minutes to reach by motorbike taxi or car depending on traffic and road conditions. Most guests book either a private car with driver (most reliable, no stress) or split a motorbike taxi with their partner and stylist (fast, intimate, cheaper). Golden hour—dawn or one hour before sunset—is when the light turns the sand soft gold and the sea reflects it back; we arrive 90 minutes before your chosen golden-hour slot to scout sand texture, wind direction, and reflector angles. The beach has no facilities, so we bring all makeup, styling kit, and water on-site. Cáo Studio handles transport coordination via WhatsApp: we confirm your arrival time, vehicle type, and parking spot two days before the shoot so nothing surprises you on the morning. Avoid midday (10 a.m.–3 p.m.): harsh shadows kill even the best composition. Chat with us on WhatsApp
What transport option fits your shoot style?
We've used three main routes in 2025–26 with different guests, and each works for different situations. Private car with driver (Toyota Innova or similar): best if you're bringing an ao dai, formal wear, or carrying multiple outfit changes—the vehicle stays parked nearby as your changing room and equipment depot. Motorbike taxi or Grab: fastest if you're two people in casual wear heading straight to the beach; no waiting for a car to reverse or find parking. Walk or bicycle from Ancient Town: only works if your shoot is 4–5 p.m. onward and you're staying within 1 km of the Old Town; sand in sandals is not romantic. We've had guests try all three and return with the same photos—timing and light matter more than speed. Ask us which option pairs best with your pre-wedding photoshoot package on WhatsApp.

How early should you arrive before golden hour?
Golden hour lasts 45 minutes at An Bang in summer and only 30 minutes in winter (December–February). We arrive 90 minutes before your preferred start time—that gives us 30 minutes to park, unload gear, and scout the exact beach section where light will be best; 20 minutes for you to change into your first outfit and let the stylist adjust hair and makeup in real light (studio mirrors lie); and 40 minutes of shooting while the light stays perfect. If you want to shoot both sunrise (5:45–6:30 a.m.) and sunset (5:15–6:00 p.m.) in one day, that's two trips and two separate transport bookings—doable but exhausting. Most guests choose one golden hour and fill the other part of the day with an indoor location like your hotel room or a Hoi An concept café. Mention your preferred light window when you book, and we'll coordinate pickup times with your driver.
What's the honest truth about An Bang's conditions?
We love An Bang because the sand is firm and flat, the water stays calm most days, and tourists don't crowd the north end where we work. But it's still a beach: wind kicks up sand into hair and makeup, salt spray dries skin quickly, and tide changes affect where you can stand safely. On windy days (we check forecasts at 6 a.m. shoot day morning via WhatsApp), we move 200 meters north toward the rock outcrops, where wind blocks are natural. Incoming tide can shrink usable sand by 1.5 meters in an hour—we time shoots for outgoing tide and confirm tide times with our local boat contacts. We've had guests arrive in white linen expecting it to stay pristine; it won't. Prepare for sand on your feet, salt in your hair (we bring fresh-water spray), and a slightly windburned glow by hour two. If you need pristine, studio-clean conditions, a couple photoshoot at your hotel with makeup and hair service stays climate-controlled and predictable.

When to book your driver and what to confirm
We send a WhatsApp confirmation message 48 hours before your shoot with three details: (1) pickup location (your hotel name and street), (2) pickup time (we calculate backward from golden hour, so if sunset is 5:45 p.m., we pick you up at 4:50 p.m.), and (3) vehicle type (you or we choose—ask about costs and comfort). Never book a ride-share app (Grab, etc.) more than 6 hours in advance; drivers cancel or arrive late. Instead, let us coordinate with our trusted taxi and car contacts; they hold a booking and notify us if a problem emerges. Confirm your makeup and styling location: are you getting ready at your hotel (our stylist travels to you), or at our studio, or on-site at the beach? Each option changes arrival timing by 30–45 minutes. Once confirmed, we send your driver's phone number and car color so you recognize them. No surprises.
Transport cost and what's included in your package
We don't charge separately for coordinating transport—it's part of pre-wedding package planning. The vehicle itself (private car or shared taxi) is your cost; ask us for typical quotes on WhatsApp based on your hotel location and chosen vehicle type. If you're doing makeup and hair at your hotel, the stylist's transport is included in that service fee. Parking at An Bang is free and ample. We supply all photo gear, reflectors, and water; you pay for any extra clothing rentals (áo dài, formal wear). Budget an extra hour if you're flying in same-day or if this is your only free afternoon—rushing makes photos look tense.
| Scenario | Best Transport | Why | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two people, casual wear, 1 outfit | Motorbike taxi / Grab | Fast, affordable, intimate | Driver speaks basic English; helmet strap secure |
| Couple with áo dài + backup outfit | Private car + driver | Changing room on wheels; gear stays dry | Car has AC; parking confirmed; driver waits 3+ hours |
| Solo or family group, 3+ people | Private car or minivan | Room for crew, styling kit, children | Vehicle size fits your group + stylist + 2 camera bags |
| Early morning sunrise (5:30 a.m. start) | Private car booked night before | Grab drivers offline at dawn; car reliability matters | Driver confirmed at 9 p.m. previous day via WhatsApp |
What to check before your shoot day
Confirm transport 48 hours prior. We send a WhatsApp reminder; reply with your hotel address and any mobility needs (stairs hard for you, AC essential, luggage space needed). Know your golden-hour time. We text it after finalizing your shoot date; write it down and arrive 15 minutes earlier than instructed (accounts for traffic and phone delays). Pack light. Bring flip-flops you don't mind losing to sand, a light wrap or overshirt for wind, sunscreen, and a small mirror for makeup touch-ups. Leave heavy jewelry and white fabrics in your room unless we've specifically styled them in. Confirm styling location. If makeup happens at the beach, we need 25 minutes buffer after arrival before shooting starts. If it happens at your hotel, we need 45 minutes at the hotel before departure. Check weather the morning of. We monitor 6 a.m. and text if wind or rain forces a location change (rare, but we've moved two shoots in 2026 to Cua Dai Beach, 15 minutes south, for better shelter). Bring ID and cash. No ATMs at An Bang; you might want to buy a cold drink from a beach vendor.

FAQ
Can we take a regular taxi from Hoi An town to An Bang instead of booking ahead?
Yes, but it's slower and riskier on shoot day. Random taxis sometimes refuse the short 5 km trip, drivers get lost without a specific address, and you lose 20 minutes negotiating. We book with drivers we know take our guests regularly and communicate directly with us if traffic delays them. Worth asking us for a quote instead.
What if our golden hour is 5:30 p.m. but we don't finish getting ready until 5:00 p.m.?
We reschedule golden hour to the next day or move the shoot to a backlit location at An Bang where you can still shoot 5:30–6:30 p.m. with softer light. Rushing makeup and styling ruins photos more than missing peak light. Always tell us if timing is tight—we'll adjust.
Is An Bang safe at sunset? Do we need a security person?
An Bang is safe; locals and tourists shoot there until dark. We've never needed security. Stay in groups of 3+, don't walk alone, and keep phones and wallets with the stylist or driver—standard beach safety.
Can we hire a motorcycle and ride ourselves to An Bang?
Only if you're experienced riders with Vietnamese driver licenses. Most international guests don't have these. A motorbike taxi is safer and cheaper than a rental. If you insist on renting, confirm the rental shop's cancellation policy before your shoot day.
What happens if it rains on shoot day?
We check weather at 6 a.m. and decide by 7 a.m. Heavy rain → reschedule or move to an indoor special concept shoot location. Light rain → we shoot and bring towels and waterproof covers for gear. Never cancel just for clouds; mood lighting can be stunning.
How long is the drive if traffic is bad?
Normal conditions: 20 minutes. Tet holiday week or 5 p.m. rush: 35–45 minutes. We add 15 minutes buffer and confirm pickup 48 hours ahead so timing never fails.
