Getting to Ke Ga Lighthouse on Photoshoot Day: Transport and Timing
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-01
Ke Ga lighthouse sits on a rocky peninsula about 60 km south of Phan Thiết city; the nearest paved road ends 4 km away, followed by a rough coastal track passable only at low tide. Most guests drive from Ho Chi Minh City (3.5–4 hours) or fly to Phan Thiết and rent a car locally; we recommend arriving the evening before your shoot. On shoot day, you'll need 45 minutes from Phan Thiết town to the lighthouse access point, then 20–30 minutes walking the tidal zone to the lighthouse itself. Timing your arrival around low tide (which shifts by ~50 minutes each day) is critical—high tide can cut off the path entirely. Cáo Studio coordinates with drivers, scouts tide tables, and briefs guests via WhatsApp 48 hours before; factor in 6–8 hours total for hair, makeup, travel, and the shoot itself. No parking or facilities exist on-site; bring water, sun protection, and wear shoes that grip wet rocks. Chat with us on WhatsApp
Should you drive yourself or book a driver through us?
Self-driving gives flexibility but adds stress on unfamiliar roads and leaves you fatigued before the shoot. We recommend hiring a driver—either book through Cáo Studio (we vet drivers who know the route, tidal timing, and safe parking spots) or hire locally via Grab or a Phan Thiết taxi. Our drivers know where to wait, can reschedule if tides shift unexpectedly, and speak enough English to coordinate with our team via WhatsApp. If you self-drive, leave your hotel by 6:00 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. shoot; the road narrows past Hamlet 9, and GPS often fails. Budget an extra 30 minutes for wrong turns.

How do tides actually affect your shoot window?
Low tide occurs roughly 6 hours and 12 minutes later each calendar day. The rocky path to Ke Ga is walkable 2–3 hours before and after low tide; outside that window, waves block safe passage. We check the tide chart for Phan Thiết daily (based on lunar cycles and local bathymetry) and tell guests a specific arrival window via WhatsApp—usually a 4-hour band. High tide can trap you at the lighthouse or force a dangerous wade back. We've rescheduled shoots when tides ran against us; better to shift than risk wet gear or injury. Always ask your photographer which tide time they're targeting the week before your shoot.
What do you actually pack and wear for a Ke Ga shoot?
Wear water shoes or sneakers with good grip; rocks are sharp and slick even in "dry" spots. Bring a dry bag for phones and wallets—spray from waves reaches the path. Layers matter: it's cooler at the coast, and wind picks up by mid-morning. We've seen guests arrive in silk ao dài, realize they can't walk in it, and scramble to change in a car. Plan to change into shoot clothes at the lighthouse itself or near the access point; we bring a folding privacy screen and help guests manage outfits. Sunscreen (SPF 50+) is essential—the rock face reflects light intensely. Hair clips and bobby pins rust in salt spray; use metal ones and accept that hair will shift during the walk.
How do you coordinate timing with our team and a driver?
Here's what happens on shoot day: You meet our hair and makeup artist at your hotel at 5:30–6:00 a.m. (hair and makeup take 90–120 minutes). The driver arrives by 7:00 a.m. to transport you while you're being styled; this saves an hour. By 8:15 a.m., you're ready and in the car heading to Phan Thiết. Our photographer meets you at the lighthouse access point by 9:00–9:30 a.m., has scouted the site that morning, and knows exactly which rocks work given that tide. We message the driver the exact pickup time and location; they wait with water and a phone charger. The shoot itself runs 60–90 minutes; we wrap by 11:00 a.m. and head back to Phan Thiết for lunch. No surprises—everything is confirmed via WhatsApp 48 hours before.
| Transport option | Best for | Cost basis | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driver through Cáo Studio | First-time visitors, couples | Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp | Route knowledge, tide coordination, English-speaking | Slightly higher than random hire |
| Local Grab or taxi | Budget-conscious, return visitors | Varies by distance | Cheaper, available on-demand | Driver may not know Ke Ga access, tide timing unknown |
| Self-drive rental car | Independent travelers | Rental + petrol | Full control, no wait times | Fatigue before shoot, GPS failure, parking uncertainty |

What goes wrong and how do we fix it?
Tides shift unexpectedly. We check forecasts 5 days before, confirm 48 hours before, and recheck the morning of. If a storm or unusual swell narrows the safe window, we either shoot earlier/later that day or reschedule to the next low-tide cycle. We've never cancelled—only shifted timing.
Drivers get lost or arrive late. Our drivers use offline maps and know the Hamlet 9 checkpoint. We also keep a backup contact for a local guide who can meet your driver at the town turnoff.
Guests arrive exhausted and makeup is compromised. This is why we do hair and makeup at your hotel before the drive. Your stylist rides with you to touch up if needed, and we carry extra powder and setting spray.
Shoes or outfits get damaged walking the rocks. We always warn guests; some bring two pairs of shoes and change at the lighthouse. One couple wore vintage ao dài and held it above their knees the whole way—it worked, but we now proactively suggest sturdy cover-ups for the walk.
Parking near the access point fills up. We scout the lot the morning of your shoot and have backup spots 200 meters away. Our driver knows this; it's never been an issue, but it's on the checklist.
What to check before you book
- Confirm the low-tide time for your chosen date. Email us your desired shoot date; we'll tell you the exact safe window (e.g., 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.). If that clashes with your flight or schedule, we reschedule or suggest an alternative location.
- Check your fitness level. The walk is 20–30 minutes on uneven, slick rocks with a 50-meter elevation gain. Guests with knee issues, pregnancy, or very young children may struggle. We can offer a modified shoot closer to the car park.
- Verify transport is included in your package. Our pre-wedding photoshoot bundles include driver coordination and WhatsApp briefings. Hotel makeup and styling are separate; check what's in your choice before booking.
- Book at least 2 weeks in advance. We need time to coordinate drivers, scout conditions, and send you the tide schedule. Last-minute bookings (under 10 days) risk driver unavailability.
- Ask if the location is in your package. Some guests assume Ke Ga is included in every session—it's a premium add-on location. Confirm with our team that your package covers it, or ask about fees.

We've shot Ke Ga with over 80 couples since 2022. The biggest lesson: preparation beats improvisation. The location is worth the effort—those lighthouse frames, the golden-hour light on the rocks, the raw coastline—they're unforgettable. But they only work if you arrive on time, in the right tide window, with energy left to pose. That's why we handle the logistics and tell you exactly what to expect.
If Ke Ga feels too remote or you're uncertain about tides, consider our couple photoshoot at urban Saigon locations (park shoots, riverside framing, art district backdrops) or our vacation and solo photoshoot packages at more accessible coastal spots. Every option gets the same level of coordination and creative energy.
Contact us via WhatsApp with your shoot date and any logistical concerns—we'll sketch out a real timeline, confirm your transport, and send you tide tables. No vague promises; just what we've learned from actual shoots.

FAQ
What time of year has the best tides for a Ke Ga shoot?
Tides shift daily by ~50 minutes regardless of season; what matters is low-tide timing on your chosen date. We check forecasts and tell you the exact safe window. Autumn (Sept–Nov) and spring (Feb–Apr) offer cooler temperatures and calmer seas, making the walk safer and photos clearer.
Can we shoot at Ke Ga if we're flying in from Hanoi the same morning?
No. A Hanoi–Saigon flight arrives 9:00–10:00 a.m.; add 1 hour to reach the hotel, 90 minutes for hair and makeup, then 4 hours to Phan Thiết. You'd miss the optimal low-tide window. We recommend flying in the day before your shoot.
Do we need to hire a guide to walk the lighthouse path?
No. Our photographer leads the walk and knows the safest rocks. Bring water, wear good shoes, and follow their cues. We've guided couples with no rock-climbing experience through Ke Ga without incident.
What if high tide is scheduled during our preferred shoot time?
We reschedule to the next low-tide cycle or suggest an alternative location. High tide can block the path entirely—safety comes first. We'll offer alternative dates with clear tides before finalizing the booking.
Are there toilets or changing rooms at Ke Ga lighthouse?
No facilities exist on-site. Plan to change clothes near the car park or at your hotel; we bring a privacy screen if needed. Bring a thermos of water and plan to return to Phan Thiết town for a proper lunch after the shoot.
Can we bring families or children under 10 to a Ke Ga shoot?
Young children struggle with the rocky walk and uneven footing. Our family photoshoot packages work better at accessible coastal parks. Teens (13+) and older children usually manage fine with supervision and proper footwear.
