Pre-wedding photoshoot at My Khe Beach, Da Nang: the complete guide

By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-02

My Khe Beach, 30 km of curve between the city and Son Tra Peninsula, draws couples for its soft sand, palm fringe, and light that shifts across the day. Most pre-wedding shoots there run 2–3 hours, split between golden hour (first hour after sunrise or last 90 minutes before sunset) and midday soft light near the water. Cáo Studio books guests on our couple photoshoot package, which includes styling, a photographer, one outfit change, digital files, and typically 40–80 final images. The beach holds no permit requirement for photography, but crowds peak 6–9 a.m. and 4–6 p.m.; off-peak slots (10 a.m.–3 p.m.) mean fewer tourists in the frame and hotter light—a tradeoff we help you navigate before the session. Parking costs nothing; bring water, sunscreen, and a change of shoes. Chat with us on WhatsApp

Why My Khe works better at certain tide times

Tides reshape the beach every six hours. Low tide exposes a wide, flat sand shelf that photographs cleanly and stretches your movement options; high tide pushes the waterline closer, reducing the usable sand and forcing tighter framing. We check the tide calendar two weeks before your shoot and advise the best window. On the day, we arrive 20 minutes early to read the actual sand and adjust our angles. If the tide is not what the forecast promised—it happens—we pivot: moving further along the beach toward the quieter stretch near Son Tra, or switching to morning light if afternoon waves are choppy. Most couples don't know this matters; it saves your shoot.

How crowds affect your timing and look

My Khe averages 1,000–3,000 visitors daily depending on season. Summer (May–August) and Tet holidays (late January–early February) mean packed beaches; winter (November–March) is calmer. Early morning (6–7 a.m.) is nearly empty, but the sun is lower and warmer-toned—beautiful if you want that glow, harsh if you're uncomfortable squinting. We shoot a lot at 6:30 a.m. because you get soft light, empty sand, and the couple's energy is high. Midday (11 a.m.–2 p.m.) has families and sunbathers everywhere, but the light is neutral and often overcast—less dramatic, but your face is clearer and there's no shadow under your eyes. Sunset (5–6:15 p.m.) is crowded and slow-moving, but the light is orange and romantic; you'll share the beach, but the light alone makes couples feel seen. We price these slots the same; the choice is about what mood matters to you.

What to wear so you don't regret the images

Sand sticks to cotton, silk catches wind, and white reflects heat. We steer couples toward linen or cotton-linen blend dresses and loose trousers in cream, blush, or soft pastels. Avoid pure white unless the sky is overcast (it reads as blown-out). Guys in linen shirts, rolled sleeves, look relaxed and photograph well. Shoes are a choice: barefoot reads romantic but sand is hot and rough; leather sandals stay on your feet. Many couples bring a second outfit—a dress or shirt—to change into halfway through. We've seen couples regret wearing their formal engagement outfit because sand worked into seams and the fabric was stiff. Makeup and hair matters here: waterproof mascara and a light powder base mean you're not retouching sweat on camera. We recommend couples get ready at their hotel and arrive at the beach ready to move.

How we handle unexpected weather and light

Da Nang's monsoon runs October–December; rain can arrive without warning. We plan shoots for December–September when weather is more stable. On shoot day, if clouds roll in 30 minutes before, we don't cancel—we adapt. Overcast light is the most flattering for skin, so we often thank the weather and shoot. If rain starts heavy, we move to the covered pergola area near the beach access point or reschedule for the next available slot (no extra charge). Occasionally the light is wrong: glare, harsh shadows, or a hazy horizon. We walk the beach with you to find angles—standing in the shade of a palm, moving into the water to use the reflection, or shooting into the light so you're backlit and the sky glows. These decisions take 5 minutes on the ground; it's why a photographer who knows the beach is worth booking in advance.

Booking, payment, and what happens after the shoot

Our pre-wedding packages start with a 30-minute WhatsApp chat to lock your date, outfit plan, and any special requests (vow renewal, proposal reveal, family cameo). We ask for a deposit to secure the date; payment options include Visa, Mastercard, online payment link, bank transfer, or cash—guests from abroad can pay fully online. The photographer arrives at your hotel 90 minutes before the shoot for final checks; we depart together for My Khe. On the day, you'll spend 2–3 hours with us, get lunch suggestions, and we handle all setup and direction. After the shoot, we spend 5–7 days editing your images (white balance, skin tone, shadow detail, removal of photobombers). You receive digital files via a private download link, full ownership, no watermark, no limits on printing or sharing. Many couples order canvas prints, albums, or framed gifts afterward; we have no pressure, just options if you want them.

What to check before you book

Transportation: If you're staying in central Da Nang (near Hoan Kiem Lake area), the drive to My Khe is 20–30 minutes; if you're at a resort near the north beach, it's 10 minutes. We can arrange a car pickup or meet you there; confirm this on WhatsApp.

Timing conflict: If you're also doing an ao dai photoshoot or special concept shoot the same day, tell us—we've done back-to-back sessions, but you need to know the schedule is tight.

Solo or couple: My Khe works for couples, but also for solo vacation shots or family photoshoots. If you're a group, let us know the size so we can plan spacing and angles.

Prints and keepsakes: After the shoot, some couples want albums, canvas prints, or framed photos. We can advise on sizing and material in your WhatsApp chat, not on the beach.

Backup date: Book with a rain date in mind—we can reschedule at no cost if weather is severe, but having a Plan B date helps us lock your slot.

FAQ

What's the best month to shoot at My Khe?

November–April has the most stable weather and cooler temperatures. December–February is peak season, so book early. May–October has heat and occasional rain, but fewer crowds and softer light; it works if you're flexible.

Do we need a permit to photograph at My Khe Beach?

No permit is required for personal or couple photography. Commercial shoots (advertising, publication) need approval; we handle any questions on your behalf.

How many outfit changes can we do in one session?

Most couples do 1–2 changes in 2–3 hours. Each change takes 10–15 minutes (restroom or car). Three changes is possible but rushed; we suggest two so you can relax and move naturally between setups.

What if the sun is too bright and harsh at our chosen time?

We move into the shade of palms or beach structures, shoot toward the sun (backlit), or angle into the water glare. If light is truly bad, we can pause 15 minutes and reshoot as light shifts. The photographer knows how to work with any condition.

Can family members or friends watch the shoot?

Yes. They stay behind the camera or off to the side. Some couples like family present for moral support; others find it distracting. Tell us in advance if you want your partner's best friend there, and we'll brief them on staying out of frame.
