Pre-wedding photoshoot Hanoi: what to book before your big day
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-01
A pre-wedding photoshoot in Hanoi is a dedicated session—typically 4 to 8 hours—where we photograph you as a couple across the city's landmarks, gardens, and streets before your wedding day. Cáo Studio runs these shoots from our Hanoi studio with one photographer, a stylist, and a makeup artist who travels with you or meets you at your hotel. The package includes outfit changes, location scouting (we scout Old Quarter backstreets, Hoan Kiem Lake parks, and French Quarter architecture), edited digital files, and usually 80–200 final images. Cost varies by shoot length and team size; check pre-wedding packages on vietnamphotoshoot.com for current options and payment methods (Visa, Mastercard, bank transfer, or cash). Most couples book 2–3 months ahead. Common mistakes: booking in peak heat (April–May), changing clothes five times (slows flow), or skipping a weather backup plan. Chat with us on WhatsApp
When should we schedule our shoot if we're getting married in Hanoi?
Most engaged couples book 8–12 weeks before their wedding day. That window lets us confirm availability, scout locations that match your style, and schedule hair and makeup prep. In practice, we see spring (February–March) and autumn (September–October) fill fastest because the light is soft and humidity is lower. If your wedding is in summer, we push your pre-wedding shoot earlier—into May or June—to avoid the midday heat that flattens skin tones and makes everyone sweat through outfit changes. We've shot in July rain on Hang Ma Street in the Old Quarter; it works visually but adds 20 minutes to wardrobe transitions because silk áo dài clings when wet. If you're marrying in winter (November–December), you have the most flexibility, but book by late August to secure your preferred photographer.
Why it matters: A 10-week window gives our Hanoi team time to recce three backup locations if your first choice is under construction or too crowded on shoot day.

What's included in a typical Hanoi pre-wedding package?
Our pre-wedding photoshoot package covers photographer time, one outfit change, a makeup artist for touch-ups, and location guidance across 4–6 hours. The standard workflow looks like this: we meet at your hotel (7:00 a.m., before heat peaks), do a 30-minute makeup refresh if needed, drive to location one (Old Quarter or Tran Quoc Pagoda), shoot 60–90 minutes, move to location two, break for water and outfit change (45 minutes), then location three. By 1:00 p.m. we're done. You receive 100–150 edited images within 2 weeks as digital downloads. Some couples add our makeup and hair at your hotel service if they want a full glam session the morning of—that's separate.
| What's included | 4-hour shoot | 6-hour shoot | Add-on: hair & makeup at hotel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photographer + stylist | Yes | Yes | Hair & makeup artist only |
| Outfit changes | 1 outfit | 2 outfits | Not included |
| Location scouting | 2 locations | 3 locations | N/A |

| Edited digital files | 100–150 images | 150–200 images | N/A |

What to check: Does your chosen package include a stylist who steams your áo dài on set? Some studios charge extra. We include it.
Where do couples usually shoot in Hanoi, and how do we pick locations?
We work across five zones: the Old Quarter (Hang Ma Street, Hoan Kiem Lake shoreline, ancient shop-houses), the French Quarter (yellow colonial villas, tree-lined Trang Tien Street), Tran Quoc Pagoda (water views, golden hour magic), the Mua Caves area near Ninh Binh if you're willing to drive 90 minutes, and modern spots like the Long Bien Bridge at sunrise. Most couples come to us with Pinterest boards of 5–8 images; we narrow it to 2–3 real locations we've shot before, based on your timeline and outfit. A bride in a white Western gown photographs better against French Quarter architecture; a couple in áo dài shine at temple pagoda steps. If you want that rice-field backdrop, Ninh Binh is worth the drive—we've timed it so couples shoot Hanoi locations in the morning, lunch near the Mua caves, then golden-hour shots overlooking karst mountains. We always have a rain backup: the Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu) colonnades, or the Hanoi Opera House lobby if the light is right.
Why it matters: We scout each location ourselves 3–5 days before your shoot. If a street festival is on, we pivot. That's why booking in advance pays off—we're not guessing.
What goes wrong on shoot day, and how do we prevent it?
Heat exhaustion happens. A groom in a formal suit at 10:30 a.m. on Tran Tien Street can drop energy fast; we now schedule formal shots before 10:00 a.m. or after 3:00 p.m., and keep cold water, electrolyte drinks, and a portable shade umbrella in the car. Sweat on makeup is our second common fix: our makeup artist carries blotting paper and a powder compact, and we take a 10-minute break in an air-conditioned café between locations. Outfit changes take longer than expected when áo dài alterations weren't finished—one couple arrived with a hem still being pinned; we had to reshoot that outfit 20 minutes later. Now we ask to see final outfits in photos before shoot day. Rain mid-session is real: in September we'll have a 40% chance of afternoon showers. We always book indoor backup spots (Hanoi Museum, Ho Tay lakeside pavilions) and text couples the backup plan the night before. One couple's photographer called in sick the morning of; we reassigned a second shooter from our Saigon team, who drove up overnight. That's rare, but it's why we're a studio, not one-person operators.
What to avoid: Don't schedule a 6-hour shoot in July or August. Don't leave outfit steaming to the last hour. Don't book a single location with no backup.

How much should you budget, and what payment options do we accept?
Pre-wedding packages start from a baseline cost; rush editing, extra locations, or a second outfit increment the total. We accept Visa, Mastercard, online payment links from vietnamphotoshoot.com, bank transfer (for transfers from abroad), or cash on the day—no upfront percentage lock-in if you're paying remotely. Most couples pay a deposit to secure the date, then the balance one week before. If you're flying in from overseas, we can send you a payment link via WhatsApp that works globally; it clears in 1–2 days. The booking site shows all package tiers and add-ons; compare the 4-hour versus 6-hour options there, because extending by 2 hours often costs less than booking two separate shoots.

What should you finalize before your shoot date?
One week before, confirm with us:
- Outfit details. Send photos of your áo dài, suit, or dress. We check fit, colors that photograph well (avoid pure white next to pale skin outdoors), and whether the hem/sleeves are finished.
- Hair and makeup plan. Are you doing your own, or do you want our hotel makeup and hair service? If hiring an external artist, give us their name and arrival time so we coordinate timing.
- Location list. We'll send you three confirmed spots and two backups. You don't need to approve every building—trust our eye—but flag any hard no-gos.
- Weather backup. We text you a Plan B location the morning of if rain is forecast. Acknowledge it so there's no confusion.
- Timeline and meeting point. Confirm the hotel or café where we pick you up, and whether you need makeup touch-ups at your hotel beforehand.
What if we're also getting married in Saigon or another city?
We run pre-wedding shoots from both our Hanoi studio and Saigon location. If you're marrying in Saigon but want to shoot in Hanoi (for example, shooting your childhood neighborhood), we can arrange it; we cover travel time in the booking. Some couples do a split: Hanoi shoot 3 months before, Saigon shoot 6 weeks before. One pair booked a special concept shoot across Hoi An's lantern-lit streets three weeks before their Da Nang wedding. Each city has different light, vibe, and logistic costs. The booking site lets you choose your city; check our available studios to see team capacity and rates by region.
Can we add other services to our pre-wedding shoot?
Yes. If you want proposal and anniversary photos the same day (a renewal of vows or an engagement photo overlap), we can double-up the shoot and adjust the timeline. Some couples add couple photoshoot sessions a week after the wedding to capture reception candids or a second-day outfit; that's a separate booking. A few have booked a family photoshoot with parents and siblings on the shoot day morning, then done couples portraits after lunch. We've also combined pre-wedding with an áo dài photoshoot if you want a dedicated session just in traditional dress, separate from your wedding-day outfit. Each add-on has its own package. Mention your ideas when you first message us on WhatsApp; we'll bundle booking options and adjust pricing accordingly.

FAQ
How far in advance do we need to book a pre-wedding shoot in Hanoi?
Book 8–12 weeks before your wedding. Spring and autumn fill fast (February–March, September–October); if you're marrying then, aim for 12 weeks. Summer and winter have more flexibility. Confirm availability on vietnamphotoshoot.com or message us on WhatsApp.
Can we do a pre-wedding shoot if our wedding is in another city?
Yes. We shoot pre-wedding sessions in Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An, and Ninh Binh. Some couples book a Hanoi shoot months before, then marry elsewhere. Travel time is factored into the package cost; mention your wedding city when you book.
What if it rains on our pre-wedding shoot day?
We text you a backup indoor location (museum, café, gallery, temple) the night before. We always have two alternatives scouted. Rain creates moody photos, but if you prefer dry, the backup keeps you on schedule without rescheduling.
Do we need to hire a separate makeup artist, or is it included?
Our standard package includes touch-ups on set by our makeup artist. If you want a full glam session before the shoot starts, add our hotel makeup and hair service. Many couples book both if they're nervous about sweat or want salon-level prep.
Can we do multiple outfit changes in one shoot?
Yes. Our 4-hour package includes one outfit change; 6-hour includes two. More than two changes (e.g., Western dress, áo dài, casual wear) takes 8+ hours and costs more. Plan outfit changes in advance so we're not steaming clothes between locations.
What if we want to shoot in a very specific location, like my family home?
We work with private homes, gardens, and family estates all the time. Let us know the address early; we scout it 3–5 days before to check light, power outlets for touch-up makeup, and whether we need permits (rarely). Home shoots often feel more intimate and personal.
