Pre-wedding video in Hanoi: what we film and how to choose
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-02
Pre-wedding video in Hanoi is a short cinematic film (usually 3–5 minutes) we shoot over a few hours at locations you choose—Old Quarter, Trúc Bạch Lake, Hoan Kiem, or temples near the city. Cáo Studio sends a videographer and photographer together so you get both moving footage and stills in one session. We film your real moments: walking, talking, stealing glances, laughing. A typical shoot runs 4–6 hours, covers 2–3 locations, and includes color grading and music in the final edit. Cost varies by length, locations, and editing style; ask us for a quote on WhatsApp. Avoid choosing too many locations in one session—travel time eats into filming, and rushed footage feels stiff. Pick 2–3 spots close together instead. Chat with us on WhatsApp
What happens on the day we film your video?
We start with a phone call or WhatsApp message one week before. We ask: what story do you want to tell? How did you meet? What makes you laugh together? We listen, not to fill a template, but to find the real moments worth capturing. On shoot day, we meet you at the first location—usually around sunrise or late afternoon when light is soft. Our videographer brings a camera rig (not a phone), a sound recorder, and backup batteries. The photographer positions herself to catch details: rings, tears, the way you hold hands. We film for 5–10 minutes per location, then move. We do not shout directions like "now run toward the camera." Instead, we ask you to walk, sit on a bench, or stop and look at each other. We film around you, catching the in-between moments when you forget we are there.

Why does editing take longer than you'd expect?
The shoot is one afternoon. Editing is two weeks. Here's why: we log footage (review every second), select clips that match the story arc, color-grade each shot so sunlight stays consistent across locations, sync music to cuts, and add subtle effects. We also watch for blinks, blurry frames, or moments where the focus drifts. If a take is 80% perfect but the ending is soft, we might use 40 seconds from one angle, 20 from another, and blend them. A 4-minute final video is built from 1.5–2 hours of raw footage. Bad editing rushes this step. Good editing finds the rhythm—when to hold on your kiss for three seconds, when to cut fast to music. We share drafts with you for feedback; most couples ask for tweaks to music or pacing, and we revise once.

Where in Hanoi do you actually film?
We've shot at the same 15–20 spots enough times to know the light, the crowds, and the best angles. Here are the real ones:
| Location | Best time | Vibe | Why we pick it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hoan Kiem Lake (around the island) | 5:30–6:30 AM or 4:30–5:30 PM | Peaceful water, sunrise glow | Empty in early morning, soft light |
| Trúc Bạch Lake (west side path) | Late afternoon | Quiet residential, green trees | Local feel, no tourists, natural frames |
| Old Quarter (Hang Dao street at dawn) | 5:30–6:30 AM | Moody, narrow alleys, shuttered shops | Empty streets, moody color, intimate |
| Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre (exterior steps) | Any time | Heritage, dramatic arches | Iconic red backdrop, good depth |
| Temple of Literature (main courtyard) | Early morning or late afternoon | Spiritual, red gates, stone paths | No crowds, official but romantic |
| Tran Quoc Pagoda (by the water) | Sunset | Golden light over Hanoi | Best light of the day, dramatic silhouettes |
Not every couple needs all six. We ask: do you want urban energy, nature, heritage, or a mix? We also avoid midday (harsh shadows) and weekends (crowds). Rain? We reshoot or pivot to covered spots (arcades, temple interiors). We own a drone; if you want aerial shots, we apply for permits and file the flight plan. This adds to the editing and cost; ask on WhatsApp if it fits your vision.

How does video differ from a photo package?
| Format | Duration | Cost basis | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-wedding video | 3–5 min final | By day rate + edit time | One edited clip, 1000+ frames graded, music | Sharing on social, reliving the day |
| Pre-wedding photoshoot | 4–6 hours | By hour + album | 200–400 edited photos, prints/digital | Wedding albums, large prints, detail shots |
| Video + photo combo | 6–8 hours | Video rate + photo add-on | Full video and 300+ photos | Complete coverage, both stories told |
| Cinematic short film | 8–12 min final | Premium day rate + extended edit | Multiple scenes, narrative arc, color grading | Engagement party screening, gift for parents |
Most couples pair video with a photo shoot to cover all bases. Some book video alone if they want one short, shareable clip for social media and a memory. A few go full cinematic (10+ minutes) if they plan a premiere at a pre-wedding party. Ask yourself: will you print photos? Do you want a video to share online? Will your parents want a physical album? Answer those, and the package clicks into place.
What should you check before you book video with us?
Before you WhatsApp or email, ask yourself:
- How long a final video? (3-minute clips are easier to edit and share; 8+ minutes tell a longer story but need more planning.)
- How many locations? (Two or three is realistic in one day; more means rushing.)
- Do you want drone footage? (Adds permit time and cost.)
- What's your timeline? (We deliver in 2–3 weeks after the shoot; if you need it in 5 days, we might not be your fit.)
- Do you want both video and photos? (We can do both in one 6–8 hour session.)
- What story matters most? (Meeting place, your hobbies, your laughs—tell us, and we shape the film around it.)
- Will you screen this at a party, or is it for personal viewing? (A premiere changes how we approach color and pacing.)
Once you answer these, WhatsApp us with your date, preferred locations, and rough video length. We'll send a quote and availability.
Who else books pre-wedding video in Hanoi?
Most couples are 26–35, engaged or married abroad and celebrating in Vietnam, or Hanoi locals planning a destination wedding later. International travelers often book video + ao dai photoshoot in one trip to capture both tradition and love story. Some book proposal and anniversary video if they're planning a surprise or big milestone. A few ask for special concept shoot video instead—themed, styled, more art film than documentary. The common thread: they want proof they were here, together, at this moment.
Cáo Studio also serves couple photoshoot clients who later upgrade to video after seeing their photos. And travelers on vacation and solo photoshoot bookings sometimes add a day for pre-wedding video if their trip overlaps a partner's arrival. We coordinate makeup and hair through hotel visits so you're camera-ready without a studio trip.
Our Hanoi studio is the base for all Hanoi shoots; if you want to combine a video with other packages in Saigon or elsewhere, we can discuss logistics.

FAQ
How much does a pre-wedding video cost?
Price depends on video length (3–5 minutes vs. 8–12 minutes), location count, editing style, and add-ons like drone footage. Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp with your dates and details.
Can you film in rain?
Yes. We reschedule if it's heavy downpour, but light rain often looks moody and romantic on film. We'll discuss options the week before the shoot.
How long until we see the final video?
We deliver the edited video 2–3 weeks after your shoot. First draft shares are sent sooner for your feedback.
Can we choose the music for the video?
Absolutely. We suggest royalty-free options and can sync your song if you own or license it. Let us know early.
Do you offer same-day or rush editing?
Not typically. Rushing edits burns out our team and shows in the final film. We build in two weeks to do it right. If you have a hard deadline, tell us in the WhatsApp inquiry.
Can we film at multiple cities (Hanoi + Hoi An) in one trip?
Yes. We have teams in both cities. This means extra travel time and coordination, so cost and timeline shift. Describe your plan on WhatsApp and we'll map it out.
What if we hate the first draft?
We revise based on feedback—music, pacing, color, or scene order. Major reshoots are charged separately. Be clear on preferences before we start editing.
Do you provide raw footage or just the edited video?
We deliver the final edited video. Raw footage is available on request at extra cost; it's yours to archive or give to another editor if needed.
