Wedding Photoshoot Vietnam: What We Shoot, How We Plan It
By the Cáo Studio team · Hanoi & Saigon · 2026-11-04
A wedding photoshoot in Vietnam with Cáo Studio is a half-day or full-day session where our photographers, stylists and makeup artist work with your couple (or family, or solo traveler) in traditional ao dai, modern dress, or both. We shoot in temples, gardens, hotels, rice fields and street locations across Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An and Ninh Binh. Sessions typically run 3–8 hours depending on your package. We handle styling, hair and makeup on-site, scout locations beforehand, and deliver edited digital files within 2–3 weeks. Cost varies by duration, number of outfit changes and location complexity; ask us for a quote on WhatsApp. Most couples book either a couple photoshoot package for engagement or pre-wedding moments, or add-on a proposal and anniversary session for a milestone. Why Couples Choose Vietnam for Wedding Shoots
We see it every week: couples fly in 2–7 days and want authentic backdrops that feel like a holiday, not a studio. Vietnam offers temples with real incense and morning light, rice paddies in Ninh Binh where buffalos actually work, street markets in Hoi An, and colonial architecture in Saigon that doesn't need a filter. Our team shoots in these places because they're accessible and they photograph differently each season. Spring (February–March) gives softer light and blooming flowers; summer (June–August) is humid but dramatic; autumn (September–November) is our busiest, with clearer skies. Winter (December–January) is dry and cool, perfect for long shooting days. We book locations, time sunrise for you, and scout again the morning-of if weather shifts. Most packages include 2–4 locations; ask us which suit your aesthetic on WhatsApp.

What Happens Hour by Hour on Shoot Day
Our workflow is tight because we're managing light, traffic, and energy. You arrive at our studio (Hanoi or Saigon) or your hotel by 6:00 or 7:00 am. Makeup and hair take 60–90 minutes; we do this while you're calm and the light outside is soft. Our stylists lay out outfits—usually two or three changes—and we confirm which locations we're hitting based on weather. By 8:30–9:00 am we're loading a van and driving to the first spot. Photographer shoots for 45 minutes, we move. Second location: 45 minutes. Third location or outfit change: another hour. Lunch or break around noon. Afternoon light is harsh, so we either shoot indoors (hotel suites, café interiors) or wait for golden hour (4:00–6:00 pm) if we're near a lake or rice field. We wrap by 6:00–7:00 pm. Throughout, our assistant manages continuity: hair touch-ups, outfit clips, reflectors for shadows. We take thousands of frames; most couples are shocked how many shots we deliver even from a 4-hour session. Editing takes us 10–15 business days.
Ao Dai Sessions: Traditions We Actually Follow
The ao dai is Vietnam's national dress, and yes, we specialize in it. Our ao dai photoshoot package is different from a generic "wear traditional dress" shoot because we work with stylists who understand proportions, fabric movement, and the story the outfit tells. We source áo dài from tailors in Hanoi and Saigon; most couples either bring their own or let us source one to fit. The fitting happens during your initial WhatsApp conversation—we ask your height, shoe size, and preferred color. Áo dài photography looks strongest in temple courtyards (Hoan Kiem, Ninh Binh's Mua Cave temple) and leafy gardens where the dress fabric flows and catches light. We never shoot on busy streets in ao dai; it looks cluttered. We book temples early, around 7:00–8:00 am, before crowds arrive. Our team includes a stylist who adjusts the áo dài's collar, train and drape between shots—a detail most photographers skip that makes the difference between stiff and elegant. If you're doing both ao dai and modern dress, we factor in 20 minutes for each change.

Couple Sessions vs. Family and Solo: Who Books What
Our team sees different customer profiles, and the packages reflect that:
| Session Type | Who Books It | What's Included | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Couple photoshoot | Engaged pairs, pre-wedding, anniversary | 2 outfit changes, 1–3 locations, makeup/hair, 8 hours | Couples wanting intimacy and variety |
| Proposal and anniversary | Surprise proposals, vow renewals | Stylized single moment, intimate venue, 2–3 hours | One big memory, minimal prep |
| Family photoshoot | Parents, kids, extended family | Multiple outfit options, child-friendly locations, 4–6 hours | Multi-generational memories, candid energy |
| Vacation and solo photoshoot | Solo travelers, friends | 1–2 outfit changes, casual or formal, 3–4 hours | Personal portfolio, travel keepsake |
| Pre-wedding and elopement | Couples eloping, intimate ceremonies | Full day, ceremony coverage, outfit changes, 10+ hours | Legal ceremony plus styled portraits |
We notice couples book couple sessions 2–3 months ahead; solo travelers often book 1–2 weeks before arrival. Families want flexible scheduling because of kids' naps. Ask us on WhatsApp which package fits your timeline.
Booking Across Vietnam: Hanoi, Saigon, Hoi An, Ninh Binh
We operate studios in Hanoi and Saigon; Hoi An and Ninh Binh are day-trip destinations. Hanoi shoots happen around Hoan Kiem, French Quarter streets, and West Lake gardens. Saigon sessions use District 1 (Saigon River, Bitexco), District 3 (Nguyen Hue pedestrian zone), and temples in District 5. Hoi An is 3 hours from Saigon; we shoot the ancient town's lantern-lit streets, river, and rice fields outside—it requires a full-day package and an early start (5:00 am departure). Ninh Binh is 2 hours from Hanoi; we use Mua Cave's temple, rice paddies, and the river. Travel time is built into package hours, so a "Ninh Binh session" actually means 10 hours of your time but 5–6 hours of shooting time because of the drive. We manage this on the day by shooting fast and using the van ride as a break. Most couples ask about Hoi An or Ninh Binh because they've seen photos; we'll tell you honestly if weather or your energy suits it. Rainy season (May–September) is risky in Ninh Binh because the river floods and roads get muddy.
What to Check Before You Book
Outfit and styling: Do you own an ao dai, or should we source one? Do you want makeup matched to your dress or your skin tone? Are you bringing shoes, or do we rent? These decisions change the quote and the prep timeline.
Location constraints: Are there temples or gardens you're set on? Some require permits; we handle that. Some are closed on certain days (temples close 11:00 am–1:00 pm for lunch). We ask this on your WhatsApp conversation before we confirm a date.
Timing: How many outfit changes do you actually want? Each one adds 15–20 minutes. A couple asking for five outfit changes needs 8–10 hours; four locations plus afternoon break is realistic. We say no to "quick 2-hour sessions" because it's not enough light or distance to cover the city meaningfully.
Hair and makeup outside the shoot: If you're doing makeup and hair at your hotel instead of our studio, we need the hotel address, room access details, and chair/mirror setup. We've shot makeup in tiny bathrooms and spacious suites; logistics matter.
Editing style: Do you want bright, saturated color (typical for ao dai), or moody/cool tones? Do you want us to remove blemishes, smooth skin, or keep it natural? We ask this in your booking call and show examples.
Budget flexibility: Our packages have a base price; location travel, extra outfit changes, and rush editing cost more. Ask for a full quote, not just the starting price, so you know the total before you commit.

FAQ
How far in advance should we book?
Book 4–6 weeks ahead for flexible location choice and preferred dates. We sometimes accommodate 2-week bookings if our schedule has gaps; ask on WhatsApp.
Do we need to speak Vietnamese?
No. Our team speaks English, and we use WhatsApp for all planning. Your photographer and stylist will communicate with hand gestures, examples, and laughter if needed—it works.
What if it rains on shoot day?
We reschedule for free if it's heavy rain (we won't shoot in flood or thunder). Light drizzle can look atmospheric; we decide morning-of. Covered locations (temples, cafés, alleyways) become our plan B.
Can we do both ao dai and modern wedding dress in one session?
Yes. It adds 30–40 minutes for styling and changes, so book an 8-hour session instead of 6. We've done it hundreds of times; bring both outfits and shoes.
When do we get our photos?
We deliver edited digital files within 2–3 weeks via cloud link. Rush delivery (1 week) costs extra. We don't print or ship physical albums unless you request separately; most couples prefer digital nowadays.
What's included in the makeup and hair service?
Full face makeup, hair styling, and touch-ups during the shoot (for sweat or wind). If you book makeup and hair at your hotel, we come to you; studio sessions include the makeup chair. No artificial lashes, wigs, or prosthetics unless you request and pay separately.
